Thank you for your interest in Brightworks! Read on to find out more about steps in the admissions process for the 2018/2019 school year.
Attend an Open House
Interested families should RSVP to one of our Brightworks Open Houses to find out more information about the school. Please click one of the following dates to rsvp for one of these Saturday open houses.
Join us for a small-group daytime tour of the school (optional and limited!)
Parents interested in observing the students in action before submitting their applications are invited to rsvp for a small group tour. These tours are small due to the size of our school! Not every interested parent will have an opportunity to visit during these tours, but will have an opportunity after applications are submitted (see below).
For prospective high school students:
Eighth grade students applying to high school and high schoolers looking to transfer are welcome to join us for a shadow day. Please click on one of the following dates to RSVP for your prospective high school student:
Applicants in other grades will be contacted for a visit day after applications have been submitted; please see below for details.
If your family is committed to applying to Brightworks, please submit an application
We believe that the Brightworks application is an extremely important factor in our admission decision process, and understand that we ask for a great deal of parent effort to complete our lengthy application essay. We take your application very seriously, and consider it to be a critically important part of the process of discovering whether there is a good fit between Brightworks and your student, and Brightworks and your entire family. Given Brightworks’ unique approach to a child’s education, it is important that both the school and family applying have ample opportunity to explore ideas, questions, thoughts, and feelings, and our application serves as a springboard for those later conversations.
All applications, application fee, and supporting materials for the 2018/2019 school year are due by January 19, 2018 for priority consideration. Every family is welcome to apply, and should contact us if the application fee presents a hardship for your family. Applications received after spots have been filled will be placed in our wait pool. Should a spot open during the year, we will reopen the enrollment process and consider wait pool applicants for placement at Brightworks.
Tuition for the 2017/2018 school year is $29,500.
Brightworks dedicated to providing tuition assistance to our families, and currently assists more than a third of our families. While our available tuition assistance for the 2018/2019 school year is limited, we encourage families who are experiencing financial hardship to fill out a tuition assistance request form (which can be found with the other application materials).
Parent School Tours
Families who express a strong affinity to the Brightworks curriculum and who we feel would be positive additions to our founding family community will be invited to join us for a parent-only daytime conversation with the administrative staff. These conversations will be held during January and February. We feel strongly that we need to limit the amount of people in our space to honor the current students’ needs, as we have an open warehouse facility filled with small groups hard at work. Due to the distraction tours cause in our students day, we are not able to offer this kind of conversation to every Brightworks applicant.
Tours for interested families are only considered when all application materials have been submitted.
Family and Student Visits
After the parent conversation, student applicants may be invited to the school for a day visit to meet with staff and current students in order to get to know each other and explore the possibility of becoming members of the Brightworks community. Kindergarten applicants will be invited for a morning visit separate from the bustle of the school, in order to meet them in a more comfortable, age-appropriate environment.
Notification of Acceptance
Admissions decisions are made thoughtfully, based primarily on the family’s and school’s shared vision regarding educational approaches and practices. There is no preference given for the date your application is received, although we do give priority to siblings of current students. Notice of first round acceptances will be mailed out on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, with contracts and deposits due Thursday, March 22. High school acceptances will be mailed on Thursday, March 15, with contracts and deposits due on Friday, March 23. Students to whom we are not able to offer admission will be placed in our wait pool upon request, in case there are fall, winter, or spring admissions openings.
