Job Openings

We are currently hiring for the following positions in the 2017/2018 school year:

Early Years Collaborator

High School Humanities Collaborator

Brightworks is seeking experienced candidates for the teaching position of Collaborator. The Collaborator will be responsible for teaching a group six to eight of elementary-age students (in the kindergarten through 5th grade range), as well as team teaching with other lower school collaborators within our mixed-aged school community. The Humanities Collaborator will work alongside the high school collaborator team to teach and manage the humanities aspects of the Brightworks high school curriculum.

Using the Brightworks arc as a framework for deeply engaged learning, collaborators help children develop the ability to find wonder and delight in the exploration of any topic, to practice working together to turn ideas into reality, and to learn how to communicate what they have done and why. We intentionally use the word “collaborator” instead of “teacher” to highlight that our educators work alongside the students in a process of co-exploration. Brightworks collaborators serve as models for limitless curiosity, openness to new ideas and experiences, and tenacity in the face of challenges. They facilitate and support thoughtful communication, setting the social/emotional tone of the school. The skilled collaborator exercises timing and restraint in their presentation of knowledge, material, and advice, and develops curriculum that inspires students to learn core skills needed to access their interests. In the voyage of an arc, they serve as navigator and cartographer while assisting and encouraging students to take the helm.

This full-time salaried position is year-round, with paid health and dental insurance, paid sick time, and a two-month break in summer, plus various school closure holidays.

We are seeking candidates for the position of Collaborator who have:

  • A minimum of three years of experience teaching with elementary-aged students
  • A deep understanding of progressive, inquiry based education

  • The creativity and flexibility needed to independently develop age-appropriate curriculum within a fluid project-based environment, without relying on a defined curriculum in their planning process
  • Demonstrated work ethic consistent with what is needed to steward an innovative school which is reflective and iterative by design.
