High School Group Project Has Begun

Our High School students (Obsidian Band) will be working together over the next couple of months on Project Re-Run: Fashion of the Future!

The concept for Project Re-Run is based on the reality TV show Project Runway. Within the project, there will be opportunities for creating upcycled garments, acting, directing, filming, budgeting, writing, and creating merch and print media.

To begin, we finalized roles and sketched out the phases of the project. We arrived at our project idea through a rigorous group process including elements of consensus-building, learner-led presentations of ideas, and multiple rounds of feedback and brainstorming.

And now that Project Rerun preparations are in full swing, take a look at what the team has been working on:

• Production crew, including cinematographers, sound and lighting crew, directors, and editors, has begun filming our fashion design contestants in action. They’re shooting B-roll of the sewing process and also orchestrating confessionals in the style of reality TV.
• Contestants and sewing helpers are busy creating their garment designs to fit our theme: Fashion of the Future
• Magazine and merchandise team has been working on designing a logo for the project, as well as writing articles about fashion, upcycling, and planning to conduct behind the scenes interviews with the designers.

Throughout the project, we’ve held formal all-team check-ins with progress reports and space for real-time problem-solving

Next, editing work will ramp up as the students prepare for the screening showcase on December 20.
