Mixed Media Handprints

In our ongoing Identity project, led by Rob, students in the Aquamarine Band (6-8 year olds) used art as a means of self-expression. This project spanned three sessions, providing students the canvas to reflect and showcase who they truly are, one layer at a time.

  • Phase 1 - Fine Point Marker on Plywood.

    • In the initial phase, students began with fine point markers to create their art on sturdy plywood, laying the foundation for their self-exploration.

  • Phase 2 - Colored Pencil Exploration.

    • The journey continued as students transitioned to color pencils, adding a personalized dimension to their creations.

  • Phase 3 - Sharpie Marker Detailing.

    • In the third phase, Sharpie markers were employed to enhance and refine their artwork, allowing their identity pieces to truly come to life.

  • Phase 4 - Painting with a Personal Touch.

    • The artistry deepened in the final phase, as students delved into painting, infusing even more of their unique identities into the project.

Throughout the process, we applied matte medium between phases to neutralize the surface and facilitate the use of three different mediums layered on top of each other. This layering added a textured element to the students' creations, making their art distinctive.

The Identity Art project is a celebration of individuality, creativity, and self-discovery, and it's a pleasure to be part of this journey. Stay tuned for the next chapter in our exploration of self through art.

Our Quartz Apprentice Group (ages 8-10) took the time and learned the skills to space and mount the artwork prominently for all to enjoy. They spent their community Friday laying out, hanging art, and placing art on surfaces. Their clients were the Gems, and we did not leave the job site until the Gems we’re happy.
